Review: "I can't speak highly enough about
Biotrex Senior+ (now called
Joint & Muscle Care+)
Arthritis Vitamins. Being a woman of a
"certain age" I began to develop arthritis in one of my
fingers. After taking these vitamins for a few months the
stiffness is completely gone and I now have full range of motion.

Advil,
Motrin and Aleve Linked to Heart Attacks
(April 18) A
study has raised disturbing questions about the heart-safety of
long-term use of over-the-counter pain relievers such as Advil,
Motrin and Aleve which are used to relieve Arthritis aches and
pain. Smokers in
Norway who took them for at least six months had twice the risk of
dying of a heart attack, stroke or other heart-related problem.
Specialists said it supports the Food and Drug Administration's
recent decision to warn about long-term use of all such
painkillers except aspirin.
Many doctors
have begun switching patients to non-steroid anti-inflammatory
drugs, or NSAIDs, which include ibuprofen, naproxen, and many other
over-the-counter pain relievers except acetaminophen or Tylenol, believing
them to be safer alternatives.
Heart attack
risk was highest among ibuprofen users, who were nearly three
times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than non-NSAID
users. Aspirin was the only NSAID that did not seem to raise the
risk, but the numbers of aspirin users in the study were small.
If you have
Arthritis, back pain or muscle aches, why not try Biotrex Sports+ or
Joint & Muscle Care+
instead? Made of vitamins, minerals, herbs
and other natural products, these dietary supplements may be

Kaiser will stop dispensing
painkiller Bextra
Kaiser Permanente, the nation's largest not-for-profit
managed-care provider, has told its pharmacies to stop filling
prescriptions for Bextra until tests show whether the
painkiller is safe. Bextra is approved to treat arthritis pain.
The incidence of heart attacks and
strokes among patients given Pfizer's painkiller Bextra was more
than double that of those given placebos, according to
preliminary results of a study presented at the
American Heart Association meeting in New Orleans.
Neither Bextra nor Celebrex has
proved to be any safer on the stomach than older medicines like
ibuprofen or naproxen nor have they been shown to alleviate
arthritis pain
any better than the older drugs.

Aleve linked
to heart attack and stroke
Officials at the National
Institutes of Health noticed that patients taking
naproxen, sold under the brand name (Aleve,
Naprosyn, Anaprox, Naprelan) had a 50 percent greater
incidence of cardiovascular events — heart attack or stroke
— than patients taking placebo.
Aleve, a popular pain
reliever for arthritis, has been approved for sale, first as a
prescription and then as an over-the-counter drug, since 1976.
Patients who routinely take naproxen should follow the drug
package instructions carefully, including the directions to not
take it for more than 10 days, and to consult a
doctor if pain persists.

FLASH: Pfizer Inc. said it has found an increased risk of
heart problems with patients taking its painkiller Celebrex,
a drug that is in the same class as Vioxx. Pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. has
already pulled its arthritis drug Vioxx from the market worldwide
because new data from a clinical trial found an increased risk of
heart attack and stroke.

Vitamin A is important for the eyes and skin, and for normal growth.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that maintains skin integrity, helps heal wounds and is important in immune functions.
Vitamin C is a redox agent. It acts as an antioxidant in some cases, and an oxidant in others. As an antioxidant, it helps to prevent cell damage by neutralizing "free radicals." Free radicals cause damage to cells. Some studies have shown that people who eat foods high in
Vitamin C have lower rates of cancer and heart disease. It is not clear if taking
Vitamin C supplements produces similar benefits. A 2001 study indicates that supplementation with
Vitamin C, certain other antioxidants and Zinc may slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration.
Vitamin E is a powerful biological antioxidant. Antioxidants such as
Vitamin E protect your cells against the effects of free radicals, which are potentially damaging by-products of the body's metabolism. Free radicals can cause cell damage that may contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Selenium is an essential trace mineral that the human body needs. It is an important part of antioxidant enzymes that protect cells against the effects of free radicals that are produced during normal oxygen metabolism.
Zinc is essential to the synthesis of DNA and
RNA, of proteins, insulin and sperm. The body needs
Zinc to metabolize carbohydrates, fats, protein and alcohol; to dispose of carbon dioxide; to make good use of
Vitamin A. More than seventy different enzymes require Zinc to do their appointed work.
Zinc boosts the immune system and makes wounds heal faster. It's integral to the growth and maintenance of body tissues.
Bioflavonoids have health-promoting effects that include better eyesight, improved cardiovascular health, increased capillary strength, improved structure of connective tissues and appearance of skin, and contribute to a stronger immune system.
Siberian Ginseng contains seven eleutherosides and complex polysaccharides (sugars) that support a number of bodily functions including immunity, stress relief, mental perception and physical endurance.
N-Acetyl Cysteine is involved in collagen production for skin elasticity and texture, and for alpha-keratin for fingernails, toenails, and hair. It helps the body synthesize glutathione an important antioxidant.
N-Acetyl Cysteine may also protect lung tissue through its antioxidant activity.
Green Tea Extract a botanical, is a bioflavonoid rich, potent extract used primarily for fighting free radicals. It contains a high content of polyphenols, which are a class of
bioflavonoids. Green Tea Extract contains a potent antioxidant, EGCG, which is over 200 times more powerful than vitamin E in neutralizing the pro-oxidants and free radicals that attack lipids in the brain.
Green tea is also particularly rich in a type of polyphenols called catechins. These substances have also been shown to have anti-inflammatory
properties.
Grape Seed Extract another botanical, is an herb that helps protect cells from free radical damage while promoting healthy circulation it is rich in
Polyphenols, a beneficial compound, high in antioxidants that helps to improve circulation.
Gingko Biloba is a botanical that is a powerful antioxidant.
Gingko Biloba, a readily available natural product, has been the focus of recent media reports as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Scientists examined how taking 120 mg a day of a
Gingko Biloba extract affected the rate of cognitive decline in people with mild to moderately severe dementia due to Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia.
Lactobacillus Acidophilus not only help the digestive tract function, they also reduce the presence of less healthful organisms by competing with them for the limited space available. A number of studies suggest that acidophilus can enhance immune function.
MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is a safe, natural, assimilable food, which assists the body in maintaining adequate sulfur stores.
MSM may support the body in regulating insulin production, improving skin smoothness and elasticity, regulating environmental and allergic sensitivities, enhancing bowel function and liver detoxification, and enhancing respiratory function.
MSM is a component of the proteins necessary for the formation of skin, hair, nails and muscle. Sulfur is also a component of bones, teeth and collagen.
Glucosamine HCL is found largely in cartilage and plays an important role in its health and resiliency. As we age, we lose some of the
Glucosamine and other substances in cartilage. This can lead to the thinning of cartilage and the onset and progression of arthritis.
L-Glutamine contains two ammonia groups, one from its precursor, glutamate, and the other from free ammonia in the bloodstream. One of glutamine's roles is as a "nitrogen shuttle," which helps protect the body from high levels of ammonia. Glutamine can act as a buffer, accepting excess ammonia, then releasing it when needed to form other amino acids, amino sugars, nucleotides, and urea. This capacity to accept and donate nitrogen makes glutamine the major vehicle for nitrogen transfer between tissues. In times of metabolic stress, glutamine is released into circulation, where it is transported to the tissue in need.
Cetyl Myristoleate has been shown to be highly effective as a support in the treatment of many forms of joint
conditions like arthritis. A great ingredient for people who play sports or for seniors because it helps repair cartilage and
joints and may improve the arthritic condition of aging joints.
Vitamin D Necessary for growth and development of bones & teeth. Important in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. Required for proper absorption & utilization of
Calcium and Phosphorus.
Vitamin B-12 Is a water-soluble vitamin necessary for normal metabolism of nerve tissues and is active in carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism.
B12 improves the functions of Iron in the metabolic cycle and assists Folic Acid in the synthesis of choline. It also plays an important role in the production of
DNA and RNA, the genetic material of living cells.
Calcium the body's most plentiful a
mineral, is essential for strong teeth and bones and for muscle and nerve
function. Studies suggest that Calcium supplements, if taken regularly,
help prevent osteoporosis by reducing bone loss.
Magnesium is needed for the efficient production of enzymes. It is also involved in protein metabolism, utilization of fats and carbohydrates and is necessary for proper nerve function.
Copper a trace mineral that works with Zinc and
Vitamin C to form elastin; is used in healing and in the production of energy and healthy nerves and joints. Deficiency signs include osteoporosis, anemia, weakness, impaired respiration and growth, and poor use of iron. Deficiency raises blood fat levels. An essential component of several enzymes, including those used for hemoglobin synthesis, cell respiration, and antioxidant protection of red blood cells.
Manganese is necessary for bone, skin and ligament formation, blood clotting and proper insulin function.
Chromium has been shown to lower blood glucose (sugar).
Chromium (Picolinate) has been found to decrease body fat and enhance lean body mass, while lowering blood cholesterol levels.
Tumeric Standard Extract - is a botanical and people who have various arthritis problems, osteoarthritis,
arthritis and other common joint pains have reported that this product helped them feel better.
Colostrum Medical research and reports
from consumers indicate that Colostrum may have the following health
benefits for many individuals: helps support and may speed healing,
can build lean muscle and burn fat, increases endurance, and has the
potential to enhance athletic performance.
Sea Cucumber is a rich source of
mucopolysaccharides, mainly chondroitin sulfate, and has been shown to be effective in reducing the pain and inflammation seen in the arthritic and traumatized patient.
Sea Cucumber has been shown in studies to reduce blood pressure, help in the healing of ulcers, joint pain, injury to soft tissue, as well as joint trauma.

Taking Care of Your Back - It's What
Supports You! Your spine is the flexible bone column extending from the
base of the
skull to the tailbone. It is made up of 33 back bones called vertebrae.
The first 24 vertebrae are separated by spongy cushions called discs
also known as intervertebral discs, and bound together by a network
of muscles, ligaments and tendons. Five of the vertebrae are fused
together to form the sacrum and 4 vertebrae are fused together to form
the coccyx more commonly called the tailbone. The spine is also referred
to as the vertebral column, spinal column, or backbone.
Your spine is part of our musculoskeletal system, a marvel of
invention and engineering. It allows us to twist, bend and flex in
many directions. To work properly you need have good muscle tone
and fitness. Muscles that aren't used on a regular basis become weak.
Weak muscles cannot adequately support our bones, especially those of
the spine. Add a lifetime of stress, poor posture and inactivity, and
all that serves to weaken our muscles. A simple sneeze may be
enough to cause weak muscles to spasm causing great pain.
As you get older, more problems are added. If you have
arthritis or other joint disease then you know that this can cause pain,
swelling and stiffness. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic
condition that can result in weakness, loss of mobility, and eventual
destruction and deformity of the joints. Osteoarthritis (also
called degenerative joint disease) usually affects people after middle
age and is characterized by gradual loss of cartilage of the joints.
You've probably read about the benefits of Glucosamine. Do
you know what Glucosamine is? It is an aminomonosaccharide
a very long word, but it means that it is classified as an amino sugar.
Unlike other sugars, amino sugars are carbohydrates incorporated into
body tissue rather than being used as an energy source. Glucosamine
is involved in the formation of cartilage, ligaments, tendons, bones,
eyes, nails and heart valves. Glucosamine is an important
substance that determines how many proteoglycans (water-holding
molecules) are formed in the cartilage. The greater the amount of Glucosamine,
the greater the amount of proteoglycans available to help maintain
healthy cartilage.
Since Glucosamine is available in supplement form, it may make
sense to take Glucosamine regulary to help in the maintenance of
your joint cartilage.
